INDIANAPOLIS — The Horizon League has imposed a one-game suspension on Oakland basketball coach Greg Kampe following inappropriate engagement with an officiating crew after a recent game against Robert Morris. This announcement was made on Tuesday by Commissioner Julie Roe Lach, who also indicated that an official involved in a critical late-game mistake will not officiate in the league any longer.
The incident occurred after Kam Woods successfully converted 2 out of 3 free throws in the closing seconds, securing a 73-71 victory for Robert Morris over the Golden Grizzlies late Saturday in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Coach Kampe, who is 69 years old, will be absent from the Golden Grizzlies’ upcoming home match against Green Bay, which is scheduled for Thursday night.
In his remarkable 41st season at Oakland, Kampe holds the record as the longest-serving men’s basketball coach at any NCAA Division I institution. Under his leadership, the Golden Grizzlies currently hold an overall record of 9-13 and are at 6-5 within their conference. This season follows a notable upset victory over Kentucky in last year’s NCAA Tournament, showcasing the potential of the team even amid current struggles.
