The Texas Rangers have announced that they have forged multiyear agreements with several broadcasters to air games across a five-state area, as revealed on Tuesday.
Following the introduction of the Rangers Sports Network (RSN) on Monday, the team detailed their collaboration with various traditional and digital cable providers, including DirectTV, U-Verse, and Spectrum. They are also in the process of finalizing agreements with additional distributors. For the first time since 2014, the Rangers will be offering free over-the-air game broadcasts, scheduling approximately 15 of these games, largely set for Friday night home games.
Neil Leibman, the chairman of the newly formed Rangers Entertainment and Media Company, emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving landscape of local sports broadcasting. He stated, “Given the challenges in the landscape for local game broadcasts the past few years, it was essential for us to provide fans with multiple ways to watch Rangers baseball.”
Earlier in January, the Rangers secured a multiyear deal to stream their regional games directly to consumers via the Victory+ service, which is priced at $100 for a full season pass.
Previously, the Rangers’ regional broadcasts were managed by Bally Sports Southwest, a division of the financially unstable Diamond Sports Group that underwent bankruptcy restructuring. The team’s contract with Diamond expired at the conclusion of the last season. It’s important to note that Bally Sports Southwest was not accessible through several cable providers and many well-known streaming services.
