WREXHAM, Wales — Wrexham’s push for promotion took a hit with a 3-2 loss at home against Stevenage in England’s third division on Tuesday.
The club is striving to secure its third consecutive promotion under the ownership of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Stevenage took control early in the match with goals from Dan Kemp and Jamie Reid, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham responded when Oliver Rathbone found the net, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, Jake Young’s goal for Stevenage reestablished a two-goal cushion.

In the dying moments of the game, Max Cleworth scored a header in the 90th minute, rekindling Wrexham’s hopes. But despite a valiant effort, Paul Mullin’s attempt flew over the crossbar during stoppage time, denying Wrexham an equalizer.

This defeat marked Wrexham’s first loss at home in League One this season, keeping them in third place, six points adrift of second-place Wycombe, which celebrated a win on the same day. Both teams have 18 matches left to play.

Birmingham City maintained its position at the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 win over Huddersfield, who are in fourth place. Birmingham’s minority owner, NFL legend Tom Brady, shared his excitement on social media, noting the significance of the victory.

The top two teams in the league automatically qualify for promotion to the Championship, while the next four teams will compete in a playoff for an additional promotion spot.
