Homicide suspect reportedly attempted to obtain marriage license with woman accused in Border Patrol shooting incident.

A man under murder allegations in California reportedly sought to obtain a marriage license with a woman connected to the deadly shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont.

The woman, identified as Teresa Youngblut, 21, from Washington state, is facing charges related to two weapon offenses following the death of 44-year-old Border Patrol Agent David Maland on January 20.

According to a motion from prosecutors submitted on Monday, Youngblut maintained regular communication with an individual who is linked to a homicide investigation occurring in Vallejo, California.

Court documents indicate that Maximilian Snyder, 22, was apprehended by the Vallejo police on Friday. He was subsequently charged with murder on Monday and has a court appearance slated for Tuesday in Solano County, California. No legal representation is noted for Snyder at this time.

Records from King County in Washington state reveal that Youngblut and Snyder applied for a marriage license last November.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Vermont was queried on whether Snyder was the person of interest in the California investigation. A spokesperson stated that they do not comment on ongoing investigations beyond what is publicly available.

Additionally, an inquiry was made for a response from the FBI, but no comment was received.

In the earlier incident in Vermont, Youngblut was traveling alongside Felix Bauckholt, a German national also involved in the January shooting. Their exact arrival date in Vermont remains uncertain; nonetheless, the FBI reported monitoring them for several days prior to the incident.

Prior to their time in Vermont, Bauckholt and Youngblut were renting separate units in the same duplex area located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The property owner, who wished to remain anonymous for safety concerns, noted that Bauckholt started staying in one of the units in July 2023 via Airbnb and later moved to another unit that same year. Youngblut began her rental of the first unit in November 2024 and had paid approximately $10,000 to extend her stay until the end of March.

The owner regularly visited the rental properties to collect trash and mentioned that another man seemed to be residing with Bauckholt. “They were always dressed in black, and I couldn’t help but wonder about what was happening with these people,” the owner expressed.

The last interaction the owner had with Bauckholt was about a month ago, as he attempted to transition to a more standard rental agreement instead of continuing to use Airbnb. The owner observed box trucks parked outside both rental units, with Bauckholt seen running an electrical cord to one of them.

U.S. Attorney Michael Drescher, in a motion for detention, highlighted that Youngblut had been frequently communicating with someone involved in a federal investigation concerning a double homicide in Pennsylvania and another homicide case in Vallejo.

According to the criminal complaint in Solano County, Snyder allegedly killed an individual with a knife on January 17. The report suggests the victim, referred to as “C.L.,” was a witness to a crime and was deliberately killed to prevent their testimony in a legal matter or as retaliation for their previous statements.

A crowdfunding page was established for a Curtis Lind, indicating he suffered an attack on his property in Vallejo and succumbed to his injuries.

Youngblut made an appearance in federal court in Burlington on Monday, and her detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday. Attempts to contact her attorney went unanswered.

Back in North Carolina, the owner of Youngblut’s rental mentioned he sent notifications to all tenants during a recent cold snap, advising them to let their faucets run to avoid freezing. He did not receive a response from Youngblut or Bauckholt; however, a tenant occupying the other half of Youngblut’s duplex indicated that her hot water system was malfunctioning. The owner then entered Youngblut’s unit last week to examine the plumbing.

“The most surprising sight was a stretcher located in the living room. It was just baffling; I couldn’t understand the situation with these individuals,” he noted with concern.

“The very thought still sends chills down my spine, and I can’t believe there’s a connection to my Airbnb property.”
