PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that they have signed Adam Frazier to a one-year contract valued at $1.525 million. The team revealed the news on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Frazier previously spent over five years with the Pirates from 2016 to 2021. During his time in Pittsburgh, he boasted a batting average of .283, hitting 39 home runs and driving in 204 runs across 608 games. Frazier was selected for the All-Star Game in 2021, but soon after, he was traded to the San Diego Padres.
Frazier has since had a somewhat nomadic journey in Major League Baseball, having played for the Seattle Mariners in 2022, the Baltimore Orioles in 2023, and most recently for the Kansas City Royals last season. In 104 games with the Royals in 2024, he struggled, finishing with a batting average of .202.
This new contract provides the Pirates with a flexible player who can fill roles in both the outfield and at second base. The team may have an immediate vacancy in right field following their decision to not bring back Bryan De La Cruz.
To accommodate Frazier’s addition to the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated right-handed pitcher Elvis Alvarado for assignment.
