Kayle Osborne records her initial shutout as the Sirens defeat the Charge 3-0

OTTAWA, Ontario — In an impressive display of skill, Kayle Osborne stopped 31 shots, achieving her first professional shutout in a commanding 3-0 victory for the New York Sirens over the Ottawa Charge on Monday night.

Osborne, who originates from Westport, Ontario—located roughly 90 minutes from Ottawa—had the support of many family and friends who were present to witness her milestone. The Sirens’ offense struck early, scoring two goals in the opening period and maintaining control throughout the game, adding a power-play goal in the third period to cement their lead.

This win marked New York’s first victory against the Charge this season after previously losing the first two encounters. The scoring began with the Sirens converting on their initial shot of the game; Chloe Aurard took a shot that was deflected by Emerance Maschmeyer, ultimately resulting in an own goal.

Midway through the first period, New York extended their lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal. Jessie Eldridge executed a clever behind-the-back pass to Alex Carpenter, who found the net with a short-side shot that beat Maschmeyer. Though Maschmeyer made a total of 17 saves and performed admirably afterward, the Charge struggled to provide her with adequate offensive backing.

The Sirens struck again during a two-player advantage, capitalizing on a broken play. Eldridge’s attempt to pass was deflected off Ronja Savolainen’s skate, returning back to her, allowing her to net her fourth goal of the season. The evening also marked the return of Katerina Mrazova to the Ottawa lineup after recovering from a lower-body injury that kept her out for five games.

Takeaways from the game revealed that Ottawa produced numerous shots but struggled to generate more traffic near the net for better scoring chances, while New York excelled at ensuring that most of Ottawa’s attempts were directed from the perimeter.

A pivotal moment in the match came when the Sirens utilized a major penalty on Tereza Vanisova and a minor on Gabbie Hughes, successfully scoring during the two-player advantage in the third period.

Looking ahead, Ottawa will travel to Montreal for a match against the Victoire on Wednesday, while the Sirens will set their sights on Boston to take on the Fleet on Friday.
