ARLINGTON, Texas – In a strategic move to enhance fan engagement, the Texas Rangers have announced the establishment of a new entity focused on the management of their game broadcasts.
On Monday, the franchise introduced the Rangers Sports Media & Entertainment Company, which will feature the newly formed Rangers Sports Network (RSN) alongside the current REV Entertainment. REV serves as the team’s official partner in sports and entertainment and acts as the designated booking agent for events at both their present and past stadiums.
Ray Davis, the Rangers’ majority owner, articulated that a key objective of this initiative was to increase accessibility to games for fans. He stated, “We concluded that the most effective approach to offer our supporters a broader range of viewing options was to manage various broadcasting responsibilities internally.”
Earlier this month, the Rangers secured a multiyear partnership with A Parent Media Co. Inc. (APMC), enabling the transmission of regional games directly to consumers via the Victory+ streaming service, which is set to launch this year. The team noted that this service would offer a full season of game access for $100 and represents the initial phase in diversifying viewing choices following several seasons marred by access difficulties; however, specifics on further viewing alternatives remain undisclosed.
The inception of the Rangers Sports Network is happening in conjunction with ongoing negotiations for local television rights, which aim to make games available through conventional cable providers and some limited over-the-air broadcasts. The Rangers boast a broadcast region that spans over five states, reaching more than 16 million households.
Neil Leibman, a member of the ownership group, will lead the Rangers Sports Media & Entertainment Company as chairman, stepping down from his previous roles as COO and president of business operations. Additionally, Jim Cochrane, who has served in the Rangers front office for 28 years, has been elevated to executive vice president and chief business officer.
Previously, the team’s regional broadcasts were managed by Bally Sports Southwest, which is part of the financially unstable Diamond Sports Group that recently underwent a bankruptcy restructuring. Following the expiration of the team’s contract with Diamond at the conclusion of last season, Bally Sports Southwest had limited availability across various cable systems and popular streaming platforms.
