Orioles appoint ex-All-Star outfielder Adam Jones as special advisor to the GM and community representative

BALTIMORE — Adam Jones, a retired outfielder known for his five All-Star appearances, is making a significant return to the Baltimore Orioles organization. He has been appointed as a special adviser to general manager Mike Elias and will also serve as a community ambassador for the team.

The Orioles officially announced this new appointment on Monday. In his advisory capacity, Jones will provide insight to Elias and be a valuable resource for the baseball operations staff as well as for current players.

Expressing his excitement about the role, Jones stated, “I am grateful for the Orioles relationships I have formed since my retirement, which have led us to this exciting partnership. Having the opportunity to be around the game that I love, while also learning the operations side of baseball from one of the best general managers is truly an honor.” He added that he looks forward to contributing everything he has learned from his experiences to aid in the team’s success, highlighting how special Baltimore has always been to him.

Jones’ involvement will begin at the Orioles’ spring training camp in Sarasota, Florida, where he will take on the role of guest coach.

During his time with the Orioles from 2008 to 2018, Jones made a lasting impact, securing four Gold Glove awards and earning a spot in the American League All-Star team in 2009, followed by selections in 2012 through 2015. Prior to his tenure in Baltimore, he played for the Seattle Mariners from 2006 to 2007 and wrapped up his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019. Jones officially retired as an Oriole on September 15, 2023.

Jones ranks impressively in several categories within Orioles history, placing fourth in both at-bats and total bases, as well as holding fifth place for runs, home runs, RBIs, and extra-base hits.

A recognized leader on and off the field, Jones was a three-time nominee for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, given to the MLB player who exemplifies outstanding character, sportsmanship, and community involvement. Throughout his professional career, he dedicated his time and efforts to various initiatives, including the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore, the Orioles RBI program, and the Maryland YMCA.

In summary, Adam Jones’s return to the Orioles as a special adviser not only reinforces his ongoing commitment to the franchise but also signifies a deepening connection to the Baltimore community.
