Spain prolongs national coach Luis de la Fuente’s contract through 2028

MADRID — Spain’s national football team head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has secured a contract extension that will keep him at the helm until 2028, following his triumph in the European Championship last year.

The Spanish Football Federation announced on Monday that it has decided to reaffirm its trust in De la Fuente, who is now 63 years old. De la Fuente began his coaching journey with the youth squads in 2013 and subsequently took charge of the senior national team after the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar, stepping in for Luis Enrique.

Notably, De la Fuente has become the first coach in Spain’s history to clinch the European Championship at three different levels. His past achievements include leading Spain to victories in both the Under-19 and Under-21 European Championships.

Under his extended leadership, De la Fuente will guide the national side through the upcoming 2026 World Cup and the Euro 2028 tournament, solidifying his role in shaping the future of Spanish football.
