Seahawks appoint Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator

SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks have appointed Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, a decision made on Sunday that concludes a nearly three-week search for the position. This move comes after the franchise decided to part ways with Ryan Grubb on January 6, due to the team’s struggles in the rushing department, where they ranked 28th in the league fueled by Grubb’s focus on a passing-oriented offense.

Kubiak previously held the offensive coordinator role with the New Orleans Saints during the 2024 season. Following the dismissal of head coach Dennis Allen in early November, Kubiak remained on the team’s staff under interim coach Darren Rizzi—but he is now free to pursue new opportunities as the Saints have not yet appointed a new head coach.

Under Kubiak’s guidance, the Saints faced considerable challenges, finishing the season ranked 21st in total offense, 23rd in passing yards, 14th in rushing, and 24th in scoring points, impacted in part by injuries to key players.

Klint Kubiak is the son of Gary Kubiak, a former NFL quarterback and winning Super Bowl coach. His coaching resume includes a stint as the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2021 season, followed by roles as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos in 2022, and more recently, the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.

Kubiak’s career began at Texas A&M in 2011, and he has spent time as an assistant coach with both the Vikings and Broncos prior to his recent roles.

Although the Seahawks encountered difficulties in the running game during the 2024 season, they achieved franchise records in passing. Quarterback Geno Smith amassed 4,320 passing yards, marking a franchise record and ranking fourth in the NFL. Seattle finished the season strong in the passing department, placing eighth in the league with an average of 236.5 yards per game.
