BATON ROUGE, La. — On Sunday, Flau’Jae Johnson had an impressive performance, scoring 22 points, with eight of those points coming in the decisive fourth quarter, as the No. 5 LSU Tigers secured a 64-51 victory over Texas A&M.

Aneesah Morrow contributed significantly as well, putting up 19 points for the fatigued LSU team, which improved to 21-1 overall and 6-1 in the SEC.
This matchup followed closely a challenging game against No. 2 South Carolina just 48 hours prior, after a postponement moved their game from Thursday. LSU started the second quarter strong, launching a 15-2 run and maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the game, despite the Aggies (10-9, 3-4) narrowing the score to a single possession within the first few minutes of the fourth quarter.
Texas A&M was bolstered by Taliyah Parker’s solid bench performance, where she scored 14 points, while Aicha Coulibaly and Sole Williams contributed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Aggies identified LSU’s fatigue and aggressively targeted the basket throughout the match. They successfully drew fouls against key players Johnson, Morrow, and Williams in the first half, a somewhat rare occurrence for the Tigers this season.
LSU’s struggle with bench depth became apparent late in the second quarter when all three of their main scorers—Johnson, Morrow, and Williams—were sidelined due to foul troubles with just under five minutes left in the half. Consequently, the Tigers fell short in their shooting, managing to make only one of their last eight attempts, which allowed Texas A&M to close the gap to 30-25 by halftime after a 9-3 scoring run.
A pivotal moment in the game unfolded when Sole Williams knocked down a critical 3-pointer, pulling Texas A&M within two points at 48-46 with 6:45 remaining. However, LSU quickly responded with a robust 12-3 run, featuring two 3-pointers from Kailyn Gilbert and several aggressive drives from Johnson to extend their lead.
A noteworthy statistic from the game was that LSU, ranked third nationally in offensive rebounds entering the match, achieved a season-high total of 30 rebounds. This enabled the Tigers to attempt 21 more field goals than their opponents (72 to 51).
Looking ahead, LSU will host Oklahoma on Thursday, while Texas A&M is set to take on Arkansas on the road.
