PARIS — Sacai, the leading fashion brand from Japan, brought an energetic and adventurous spirit to Paris Fashion Week with a collection showcased on Sunday, which explored themes of childhood nostalgia through innovative design.
Chitose Abe drew inspiration from the beloved 1963 children’s storybook “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak, crafting a playful and free-spirited vision that combined wild textures with her signature precision. The result was a striking show that combined boldness and originality, appealing to both the adventurous and style-conscious.
The collection emphasized both functionality and whimsy, with shaggy faux-knit furs embellishing utility olive ensembles, complemented by oversized scarves and knit blousons that evoked the essence of wild creatures. Faux fur details added character to skirts and reinvented outerwear, while nostalgic references to Sendak’s well-loved illustrations introduced an element of fantasy.
Additionally, collaborative efforts enhanced the collection, transforming classic workwear into fashion-forward statements. Sturdy boots infused with a sense of wilderness and elegant footwear harmonized with the more polished evening styles.
Modern accessories, including branded water bottles and utility bags, contributed an adventurous yet practical flair to the presentation. This combination of elements captured the excitement of unrestrained creativity, leaving the audience captivated and inspired by the daring vision on display.
