BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
— The UC Riverside Highlanders triumphed over Cal State Bakersfield 83-79 on Saturday evening, thanks to a standout performance from Barrington Hargress, who scored 22 points.
Hargress showcased his shooting prowess, going 7 for 10 from the floor, which included two successful shots from beyond the arc out of four attempts, and converted six of eight free throw attempts.
The victory brought UC Riverside’s record to 13 wins and 8 losses, with a 6-3 mark in the Big West Conference.
Joining Hargress in the scoring department, Kaleb Smith contributed 13 points, hitting 4 of 11 attempts from the field, including two 3-pointers out of six tries, and sank three out of four free throws, alongside securing five rebounds.
Nate Pickens also had a notable game, scoring 13 points with a shooting line of 3 for 9 from the field and 7 for 9 from the charity stripe.
For the Roadrunners, who now stand at 10-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play, Jemel Jones emerged as their top scorer with 20 points.
Corey Stephenson added to the team’s total with 17 points, while CJ Hardy contributed 15 points to the effort, although it wasn’t enough to clinch the win.
Overall, the match evidenced a strong performance from the Highlanders, particularly in crucial shooting moments, allowing them to seize the victory in a tightly contested game.
