ANAHEIM, Calif. — During Saturday night’s match against the Nashville Predators, Ducks goaltender John Gibson sustained an upper-body injury in the first period, prompting a change in netminders during the intermission.
Lukas Dostal stepped in to take over goaltending responsibilities at the beginning of the second period. In the first frame, Gibson managed to stop nine shots on goal, helping the Ducks secure a 2-1 lead by the end of the first. However, the injury forced him to leave the game early.
This incident marks the second occasion this season that Gibson has exited a game due to an injury. Earlier, he suffered a stick blade to the right eye in a game against the Vegas Golden Knights on December 23, which sidelined him for the subsequent two games.
Additionally, Gibson was unavailable for the first twelve games of this regular season following an emergency appendectomy.
Entering Saturday’s game, Gibson held a record of 8-8-2 across 20 games, with a goals-against average of 2.76 and a save percentage of .914. With 201 career victories with the Ducks, he is just five wins away from equaling Jean-Sebastien Giguere’s record for the most wins in franchise history.
