GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany — Czech skier Tereza Nova has undergone brain surgery and is currently in a medically induced coma following a serious accident during training for the World Cup women’s downhill event scheduled for Saturday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The Czech ski federation reported that Nova required surgical intervention to alleviate swelling in her brain after a fall in the final training session on the Kandahar course last Friday. She was transported to a hospital in Murnau for the procedure.
According to the federation’s statement, Nova will remain in the medically induced coma for as long as the medical staff deems necessary to ensure her recovery.
At 26 years old, Nova has an extensive competitive history, having participated in four events during the 2022 Beijing Olympics, with her highest finish being 14th in the combined event. She has been competing in World Cup races since the year 2019, showcasing her skills on the international stage.
