FRANKFURT, Germany – Eintracht Frankfurt has secured the services of French forward Elye Wahi with a long-term contract running until 2030.
The announcement was marked by a photo shared on social media, showcasing the 22-year-old Wahi signing the agreement on Friday night.
Wahi expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating in French, “I’m very happy to have signed for Eintracht Frankfurt. I hope the supporters of the club have faith in me and that I will repay them.”
While no official transfer fee was disclosed, reports indicate that Frankfurt has invested around 26 million euros (approximately $27.3 million) on Wahi, with potential additional bonuses totaling 3 million euros, along with a 12% share of any future transfer fee generated from his sale.
This latest transfer marks a significant career shift for Wahi, who has seen two substantial moves in the past two years. In 2023, he transferred from Montpellier to Lens for a sum of 35 million euros ($38 million), notably spurning an opportunity to join Chelsea in the Premier League.
Although he started brightly at Lens, Wahi struggled to find his footing, netting only 12 goals in 36 appearances. This season, he made a switch to Marseille for a fee of 25 million euros but managed just three league goals, indicating a lack of consistency.
Wahi previously made a notable impact during the 2022-23 season with Montpellier, where he scored 19 league goals, demonstrating his impressive speed and technical ability on the pitch.
Frankfurt has recently capitalized on lucrative sales of two forwards. Randal Kolo Muani moved to Paris Saint-Germain in a deal valued at 95 million euros, while Omar Marmoush transferred to Premier League champions Manchester City for a reported 70 million euros ($73 million) earlier this week.
