Robertson nets a pair, Benn contributes as Stars defeat Golden Knights 4-3

DALLAS — In a thrilling matchup on Friday night, the Dallas Stars triumphed over the Vegas Golden Knights with a final score of 4-3. Jason Robertson made a significant impact for the Stars by scoring two goals, while team captain Jamie Benn contributed with a pivotal tip-in goal. Roope Hintz also added to the scoreboard, and standout performances by Matt Duchene, Wyatt Johnston, and Evgenii Dadonov, each providing two assists, played a crucial role in the win. This victory allowed the Stars to level the season series against the Golden Knights, who have had a tight contest over the last few seasons, including two playoff encounters that ended in a split.

Jake Oettinger was impressive in goal for Dallas, making 18 saves, highlighted by a remarkable glove stop on a close-range shot by Pavel Dorofeyev in the closing seconds of the game. For the Golden Knights, Jack Eichel netted two goals and Shea Theodore contributed another. Despite starting the game in first place in the Pacific Division, this loss marked a troubling trend for Vegas, leaving them with a record of 2-6-1 in their last nine outings.

Mark Stone stood out for the Golden Knights with three assists, while Tomas Hertl’s assist allowed him to match his career-high eight-game point streak originally set during the 2021-22 season with San Jose. In net, Adin Hill recorded 23 saves.

Notably, Vegas extended their franchise record by scoring on the power play for the eighth consecutive game; however, Victor Olofsson’s impressive road point streak concluded at ten games. The Golden Knights managed to convert on two of their three power play opportunities against the NHL’s leading penalty-killing unit.

For the Stars, Jason Robertson’s second multi-goal game of the season brought him to 17 goals, three shy of leading scorer Hintz, who responded to Eichel’s opening goal with his own power-play tally in the first period, marking his 20th goal.

A key moment in the game occurred when Noah Hanifin of the Golden Knights missed an open-net breakaway chance coming out of the penalty box in the second period, which allowed Robertson to score just 26 seconds later, giving Dallas their first lead of the game.

Another notable statistic from the match was Wyatt Johnston, who tied his career high with a six-game point streak.

Looking ahead, the Stars are set to play against St. Louis on Saturday, while the Golden Knights will host Florida on Sunday.

This report clarifies that Jake Oettinger made the late-game save using his glove rather than his pad.
