COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina has announced a contract extension for head football coach Shane Beamer, rewarding him with a substantial raise following a successful finish to the regular season.
On Friday, the university’s board of trustees ratified a new deal for Beamer that spans three years and includes a raise of $1.5 million. Under the new contract, Beamer’s salary is set to reach $8.15 million for the year 2025, with annual raises of $100,000 scheduled through the year 2030. In comparison, Beamer’s previous agreement would have resulted in an earnings of $6.625 million in 2025 along with annual increments of $250,000 for the following two years.
The Gamecocks had a strong season, finishing with a record of 9-4, capped off by a victory over their long-standing rival Clemson. Their impressive performance brought them close to qualifying for the College Football Playoff, a feat that reflects testament to Beamer’s coaching abilities. He was also recognized as the SEC Coach of the Year, an accolade presented by The Associated Press.
Despite a defeat to Illinois in the Citrus Bowl that ended the Gamecocks’ season with a 21-17 loss, Beamer’s overall coaching record rose to 29-22 during his tenure at South Carolina. This achievement marks the most successful record for any South Carolina football coach in his first four seasons, surpassing the accomplishments of Hall of Famer Steve Spurrier.
Jeremiah Donati, the newly appointed athletic director, expressed confidence in Beamer’s leadership, stating, “The culture and commitment to excellence that Coach Beamer has built in our football program shows that we are headed in the right direction and on a strong upward trajectory. Coach Beamer has made clear his desire to be at the University of South Carolina, and this extension shows our collective support for him as the leader of our football program.”
