AUXERRE, France — Hamed Traorè, the Bournemouth striker on loan to Auxerre, scored his eighth goal of the season on Friday in a Ligue 1 match, but it wasn’t enough for a victory as lowly Saint-Etienne managed to equalize before halftime, resulting in a draw.
Traorè opened the scoring in the 26th minute, skillfully controlling a long pass from teammate Elisha Owusu. He then skillfully maneuvered into the penalty area from the right side and unleashed a low shot that found the back of the net, leaving the Saint-Etienne goalkeeper unable to respond in time.
However, Saint-Etienne responded and found an equalizer just before the halftime whistle. In stoppage time, Lucas Stassin got in position to score, converting a rebound that came his way after Auxerre’s Donovan León made two crucial, close-range saves. Stassin was perfectly placed to nod the ball into the net, bringing the score to 1-1.
Auxerre’s performance has been lackluster lately, as they have not secured a league victory since November 24. Despite this, their strong start to the season has allowed them to remain comfortably in 11th place on the league table.
On the other hand, the draw allowed Saint-Etienne to advance two spots, now sitting in 14th position.
