SANTA CLARA, Calif. — In an impressive display of basketball, Johnny O’Neil contributed 17 points off the bench, helping Santa Clara secure a commanding 93-65 victory over Washington State on Thursday evening. This game marked a significant personal achievement for LeJuan Watts, who recorded a triple-double, notching 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Watts is now only the second player in the history of Washington State to accomplish this feat.
The Broncos performed well overall, with Adama Bal making 6 of 12 field goals, including 3 of 7 from beyond the three-point arc, to total 16 points. Carlos Stewart also contributed effectively, finishing with 14 points after hitting 5 of 10 from the floor and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line. Additionally, Ethan Price chipped in with 16 points, while Rihards Vavers added 11 points for the Cougars, who now stand at 15-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Santa Clara dominated the first half, entering the break with a 49-38 lead, largely thanks to Bal’s early efforts, which saw him scoring 12 points in that frame. As the second half progressed, Santa Clara intensified their offensive play, pushing their lead to 85-62, thanks to a remarkable 17-2 run. In this period, Stewart emerged as the top scorer for his team, contributing eight points.
