CONWAY, Ark. — Isaac Haney was instrumental in Austin Peay’s narrow victory over Central Arkansas, finishing with 18 points in a thrilling 73-71 match on Thursday night.
Tekao Carpenter sealed the game for Austin Peay, converting two free throws that established a five-point margin in the final moments.
Haney’s performance included 7 successful shots out of 13 attempts, along with 2 out of 6 from three-point range, contributing to the Governors’ overall record of 8 wins and 12 losses, and a conference record of 3-4 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Sai Witt also had a strong showing, scoring 17 points with 7 of 15 shooting from the field, while going 3 for 5 at the charity stripe, alongside grabbing nine rebounds. Anton Brookshire added to the effort with 15 points, shooting 5 of 14 from the floor, including 4 of 9 from long distance.
The Bears struggled, finishing with a record of 5-15 and 1-6 in conference play. Layne Taylor led his team with 14 points and two blocked shots. Brayden Fagbemi contributed 13 points, alongside 10 assists and two steals, displaying a well-rounded game. Michael Evbagharu rounded off the team’s performance with a solid line of 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete on Saturday, with Austin Peay traveling to North Alabama and Central Arkansas preparing to host Lipscomb.
