NOTTINGHAM, England — Nottingham Forest’s forward Chris Wood has extended his contract with the Premier League club for an additional two years, committing to stay until the end of the 2026-27 season.

The experienced New Zealand international has emerged as one of the top scorers in the league, and Forest is currently positioned third in the standings as they head into the weekend match.

“I’m very excited and feel great about having this deal finalized,” shared Wood in the team’s announcement on Thursday evening. “I am looking forward to what the next couple of years will bring.” The 33-year-old joined Forest on a loan basis from Newcastle in January 2023, and his stay became permanent after the conclusion of the season.

So far this season, Wood has netted 14 goals, placing him in a tie with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer for fourth in the league’s scoring chart. This goal tally equals his personal best in the Premier League, with another 16 matches yet to be played this season.

“I’m enthusiastic about the future,” Wood added. “This club possesses immense potential for growth and development, and I want to be a part of that journey.”

Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, praised Wood’s contributions, stating, “He has delivered outstanding performances for us. Beyond just his goal-scoring, he represents all that it means to wear the Garibaldi Red — showcasing hard work, competitive spirit, and an unwavering attitude to succeed. He is a true winner and serves as a role model, inspiring everyone at the club, and we are pleased to acknowledge his dedication with our commitment.”

Nottingham Forest is set to face Bournemouth in their upcoming match on Saturday.
