AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – In a thrilling overtime game on Wednesday night, Wayne McKinney III secured a dramatic 77-76 win for San Diego State against Air Force with a last-second layup. This defeat marks the Falcons’ ninth consecutive loss.
McKinney, coming off the bench, made a significant impact, scoring 18 points while shooting 6-for-11 from the field. His clutch layup followed a jumper by Wesley Celichowski, which had briefly given Air Force a lead with just four seconds remaining in regulation.
Jared Coleman-Jones contributed to the Aztecs’ success with 14 points and six rebounds, while Taj DeGourville added depth to the scoring with 11 points and seven rebounds of his own.
Leading the Falcons, Celichowski excelled with 22 points, successfully making all eight of his shot attempts, including one three-pointer, and finishing 5-for-6 at the charity stripe. Ethan Taylor showed resilience as well, scoring 21 points, hitting four three-pointers, and grabbing eight rebounds, while Luke Kearney contributed 14 points.
As the game approached its final moments, Kyle Marshall helped force overtime with a crucial layup with 49 seconds on the clock, bringing the score to a tie at 68. He had the opportunity to complete a three-point play but missed the free throw that followed an Aztecs timeout.
This intense matchup showcased the competitive spirit of both teams, with San Diego State now improving to a record of 12-5 and 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference, while Air Force struggles with a record of 3-16 and 0-8 in the same conference.
