Charlotte signs ex-Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha on loan from Galatasaray

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a significant move, Charlotte FC has secured the services of former Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha on a loan deal from Turkish side Galatasaray. This arrangement lasts until January 17 of next year.

The club has also indicated that there is a provision to extend the loan until June 30, 2026, providing the option for a longer commitment to the talented forward.

Wilfried Zaha, who will join Charlotte as a designated player, comes with a compensation package that surpasses the MLS salary cap limit of $743,750. The 32-year-old player is known for his impressive record, having netted 81 goals in league play and an overall total of 90 across all competitions during his decade-long tenure at Crystal Palace.

After moving to Galatasaray for the current 2023-24 season, Zaha spent the initial part of this season on loan to Lyon. His career also includes a short stint at Manchester United as well as a period at Cardiff City.

On the international front, Zaha initially represented England in two matches before opting to play for Ivory Coast. To date, he has scored five goals in 33 appearances for the Ivory Coast national team.

This acquisition marks a new chapter for both Zaha and Charlotte FC, as the club looks to enhance its roster with the skills and experience of the seasoned forward.
