The Southeastern Conference has decided to delay the women’s basketball matchup featuring No. 5 LSU and No. 2 South Carolina, which was slated for Thursday night in Columbia, South Carolina, moving it to Friday due to adverse winter weather.

The postponement was announced on Wednesday, following a significant winter storm that brought nearly a foot of snow to areas in south Louisiana, creating treacherous travel conditions in regions typically unprepared for snow removal on both roads and at airports.

According to the conference, the rescheduled game will now take place on Friday at 5 p.m. EST.

LSU’s home game against Texas A&M, scheduled for Sunday evening, is still set to proceed as planned.

LSU official Michael Bonnette reported that numerous highways around Baton Rouge were closed on Wednesday, leading to the cancellation of classes at the university through Thursday. Nevertheless, officials expressed optimism that the women’s basketball team would be able to depart from Baton Rouge on Thursday for their rescheduled game.

The winter storm, which shattered snow records in both Texas and Louisiana on Tuesday, continued to affect areas into Wednesday, spreading heavy snowfall, sleet, and freezing rain across segments of the Florida Panhandle, Georgia, and the coastal regions of the Carolinas.

Currently, South Carolina holds an impressive record of 18 wins and only 1 loss, with a perfect 6-0 in SEC play, recently dominating Oklahoma with a score of 101-60 last Sunday.

On the other hand, LSU is unbeaten with a 20-0 record and stands at 5-0 in the SEC. The team is enjoying one of its finest starts ever after a convincing 80-63 win against Florida on Sunday. The previous national championship team, which finished the last season with a remarkable 23-0 record, suffered its initial defeat against South Carolina.
