AUSTIN, Texas — Arthur Kaluma contributed 14 points as Texas rallied in the late stages to secure a 61-53 victory over No. 22 Missouri on Tuesday night, marking the Longhorns’ inaugural home win in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

With just under four minutes remaining, Kadin Shedrick played a crucial role by scoring five points during a pivotal 6-1 run that put Texas (13-6, 2-4) in the lead, a position they maintained until the final buzzer. A free throw from Shedrick evened the score at 49, and shortly after, he executed a layup that propelled Texas ahead.

Texas was formidable in containing Missouri’s perimeter shooting. The Tigers, recognized as one of the better 3-point shooting teams in the SEC, struggled significantly, managing only 4 successful attempts out of 20 from beyond the arc.

Tamar Bates led Missouri (15-4, 4-2) with 10 points despite the loss. In the first half, Texas jumped to an early 10-point lead, thanks in part to back-to-back 3-pointers from Kaluma and Tre Johnson, concluding the half with a score of 32-25.

Missouri bounced back in the initial minutes of the second half, with Trent Pierce sinking two 3-pointers, the second of which tied the game at 36.

Noteworthy moments include Bates executing a spectacular dunk over two defenders, which briefly put Missouri ahead at 49-46. In response, Texas quickly scored through Jason Kent’s backdoor layup, followed by Shedrick’s scoring flurry, which clinched the lead for the Longhorns.

Statistically, Missouri had been shooting exceptionally well from 3-point range, hitting at least 10 shots from long distance over their previous four games; however, they did not convert their first 3-pointer against Texas until just 1:35 remained in the first half.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to play on Saturday. Missouri is scheduled to host No. 16 Mississippi, while Texas will take on No. 13 Texas A&M at home.
