MELBOURNE, Australia — Goran Ivanisevic’s time as the coach of 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has come to an end following her exit from the Australian Open.
Ivanisevic, who claimed the Wimbledon title himself in 2001, took to social media on Tuesday to share his thoughts, stating, “After our trial period that finished with Australian Open, I wish Elena and her team best of luck moving forward.”
Rybakina, seeded sixth in the tournament, was knocked out in the fourth round by Madison Keys on Monday, ending her hopes of progressing further.
The situation surrounding Rybakina’s coaching has been quite complex. Just prior to the U.S. Open last year, she announced that she had parted ways with her long-time coach, Stefano Vukov, and subsequently brought Ivanisevic on board at the beginning of the current season.
However, in an unexpected twist just before the Australian Open commenced, Rybakina revealed that Vukov would be rejoining her coaching team. Additionally, the WTA Tour indicated that Vukov was provisionally suspended while an independent investigation was conducted into a possible violation of the WTA code of conduct.
Ivanisevic previously enjoyed a successful coaching tenure with Novak Djokovic, guiding him to a remarkable twelve Grand Slam titles before the duo parted ways in March 2024.
