MADRID – Villarreal delivered an impressive performance on Monday, defeating Mallorca 4-0 in a Spanish league match, highlighted by four goals scored within an eight-minute burst in the first half.
In the 19th minute, Logan Costa opened the scoring for Villarreal, converting a header from a corner kick. Shortly after, Alejandro Baena showcased his skills by spearheading a swift counterattack, which culminated in him scoring the second goal just four minutes later. He then assisted Dani Parejo, who found the back of the net, making it 3-0 for the home side just two minutes afterward.
As the first half progressed, Yeremy Pino effectively sealed the match when he struck a half volley from a cross delivered by Sergi Cardona in the 27th minute. The commanding lead left little room for doubt regarding the outcome.
The second half lacked the intensity of the first, as Villarreal comfortably managed their advantage and maintained their grip on the game, moving within six points of fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao.
This match brought Villarreal’s total goals for the season to 38, putting them behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona in terms of scoring. Conversely, Mallorca remains in solid footing, sitting in sixth place in the standings.
