COLUMBIA, S.C. — On Sunday, No. 2 South Carolina showcased their dominance by defeating No. 13 Oklahoma with a resounding score of 101-60, propelled by an impressive performance from MiLaysia Fulwiley, who netted 15 points.

Fulwiley was particularly impressive early on, displaying her athleticism with a series of highlight-reel plays. Among them was a spectacular midair assist to Raven Johnson, a steal near the Oklahoma bench that resulted in an over-the-head assist to Bree Hall for an easy layup, and a long-range 30-foot 3-pointer that beat the end-of-quarter buzzer—all within the first 10 minutes of the game.

The Gamecocks (who now hold an 18-1 record and are 6-0 in Southeastern Conference play) dominated right from the start, outscoring the Sooners (15-4 overall, 3-3 in the SEC) 28-9 in the opening quarter and maintaining a commanding lead throughout the match.

Oklahoma’s All-America center, Raegan Beers, who was a game-time decision, had a solid outing with 23 points and eight rebounds. However, teammate Payton Verhulst found it challenging to bounce back from her previous stellar performance, contributing just three points after a recent 38-point game against Missouri.

Leading the charge for South Carolina was Joyce Edwards, who registered 17 points. Meanwhile, Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley, who recently signed a lucrative contract to become the highest-paid coach in women’s basketball history, celebrated her 53rd consecutive SEC regular-season victory and extended her home winning streak at Colonial Life Arena to 68 games.

As for the takeaways, Oklahoma initially attempted a fast-paced game to outrun the Gamecocks, but it quickly became evident that this strategy played directly into South Carolina’s favor. The Gamecocks have successfully navigated three challenges against ranked teams during a five-game stretch, winning each by an average margin of 25.3 points.

A pivotal moment occurred when Maryam Dauda hit a 3-pointer that pushed South Carolina to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter, marking only her fourth 3-pointer of the season and signaling a challenging day ahead for the Sooners.

A key statistic from the game revealed that Oklahoma struggled with ball security, finishing as the SEC’s poorest in this area, with 22 turnovers leading to 32 points for South Carolina.

Looking ahead, Oklahoma will be playing at home against Georgia next Sunday, while South Carolina is set to host No. 5 LSU on Thursday.
