MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In an impressive performance on Sunday, Ja’Naiya Quinerly scored 20 points, allowing her to climb into eighth place on West Virginia’s all-time scoring chart. The 20th-ranked Mountaineers secured a comfortable 82-68 win against Iowa State, bringing their season record to 15-3 and their conference record to 5-2 in the Big 12.
Quinerly showcased her skills by converting 7 of 19 shots, including three successful three-pointers, and also made 3 out of 4 free-throw attempts. With this game, she surpassed Meg Bulger’s record of 1,665 points, which was achieved from 2008 to 2011. Jordan Harrison also contributed significantly, scoring 20 points while dishing out six assists and making seven steals. Kyah Watson had a solid outing with 12 points and 11 rebounds, marking her second double-double of the season.
Leading the Cyclones was Addy Brown, who scored 19 points. Iowa State (13-7, 4-3) played without their starting point guard, Emily Ryan, due to illness. Audi Crooks added 13 points to her tally, maintaining her streak by scoring in double figures for the 52nd consecutive game, now just 12 points behind Angie Welle’s school record. Furthermore, Sydney Harris contributed 12 points, while Aili Tanke made an impact off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Mountaineers kicked off the game strong, dominating the first quarter 30-15, with Harrison contributing 10 points and Watson adding eight. West Virginia extended their lead to 40-19, capitalizing on 10 turnovers from Iowa State to score 22 points. As the teams headed into halftime, the Mountaineers held a 46-28 advantage, thanks in part to additional baskets from Harrison and Watson.
In the third quarter, Quinerly was instrumental, scoring 11 points out of the Mountaineers’ 23, resulting in a 69-49 lead. Overall, West Virginia converted an impressive 26 points off of 25 turnovers by the Cyclones. This season, the Mountaineers have consistently forced over 15 turnovers in each game, with a remarkable high of 44 in one outing.
Looking ahead, West Virginia is set to face Arizona State on Wednesday, while Iowa State will host BYU the same day.
