NEW DELHI — A 30-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday in Mumbai, India’s financial hub, as the main suspect in the stabbing incident involving Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan. The attack sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry and raised alarms about the safety of celebrities in a city that houses many Bollywood figures.

Khan was reportedly attacked on Thursday at his residence, where he suffered a significant stab wound near his spine. A female staff member at his home sustained injuries during the incident as well. Thankfully, after undergoing surgery, doctors have stated that the actor is now stable and out of danger.

According to senior police officer Dixit Gedam, the suspect is a Bangladeshi national who had entered India without proper documentation. He originally went by the name Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad but had adopted the alias Bijoy Das. Initial investigations indicate that he may have intended to commit theft when he broke into Khan’s home. The arrest took place on the outskirts of Mumbai, where the individual had reportedly been residing for the past five to six months.

Saif Ali Khan, who also works as a film producer, boasts a career that spans around 70 films and television shows. He is the son of famous Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and renowned Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore. Throughout his career, Khan has received numerous accolades, including seven Filmfare Awards for his performances in Hindi films. His contributions to cinema were recognized with the Padma Shri award in 2010, which is regarded as one of the highest civilian honors in India.
