Former Olympic gymnast Yul Moldauer has revealed that he faced a suspension of 16 months imposed by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after failing to complete three drug tests within a one-year timeframe.
Moldauer, who was part of the U.S. Olympic team in 2020, the 2017 national champion, and a two-time medalist at the world championships, shared details of his suspension on his Instagram account.
At 28 years old, Moldauer explained that he missed three “whereabouts” notifications, which are essential for Olympic-level athletes as they must provide their location daily to be eligible for random drug testing.
In a subsequent post that he later deleted, Moldauer stated that two of the missed tests coincided with competition schedules, emphasizing that he has never tested positive in any competition. The third missed notification occurred when he was approximately 45 minutes away from the designated testing location, and the test administrator informed him that he could wait no more than 15 minutes for him to arrive.
“I take full responsibility for adhering to the rules, and regrettably, I did not meet that responsibility,” he acknowledged in his post.
Moldauer, who practices in the Denver region of Colorado, remains focused on his goal of competing in the 2028 Olympics set to take place in Los Angeles.
“I am dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of athletic integrity and I look forward to making a comeback in competition, stronger and wiser than before,” he added.
