LOS ANGELES — In an impressive display, Eric Dailey Jr. achieved a personal best with 23 points, leading UCLA to a 94-70 victory over Iowa, thus ending their four-game losing streak on Friday night.
UCLA maintained control throughout the game, never falling behind and allowing Iowa to only tie at 2-2 early on after Owen Freeman responded to Tyler Bilodeau’s initial jump shot. Within just four minutes, UCLA surged to a double-digit lead, further extending it to 20 points when Kobe Johnson made a free throw at the 11:24 mark. The Bruins ended the first half with a commanding 57-24 advantage.
The Bruins’ shooting was exceptional, with a 62.1% success rate from the floor, as they converted 36 of 58 attempts, including 8 of 23 from three-point range. Notably, five players managed to score in double figures; Dailey led the way, surpassing his previous best of 20 points. Bilodeau contributed 18 points, while Dylan Andrews helped with 13 points by hitting 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. Both Skyy Clark and William Kyle III each added 12 points to the tally.
On the other hand, Iowa’s Josh Dix emerged as the standout for his team, sinking 5 of 7 attempts from deep for a total of 19 points. Owen Freeman also performed well, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, finishing with 11 points. The Hawkeyes shot 21 of 47 overall, which included 9 of 24 from three-point territory, and successfully made 19 of 25 free-throw attempts.
The victory came after UCLA suffered a tough stretch in January, where they lost their first four matchups, including games against Nebraska, No. 24 Michigan, and road defeats to Maryland and Rutgers.
Looking ahead, UCLA will host No. 24 Wisconsin on Tuesday, while Iowa will return to their home court to face Minnesota the same day.
