COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a thrilling Big Ten Conference matchup, Luke Goode sank a pivotal 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining in overtime, propelling Indiana to a narrow 77-76 victory over Ohio State on Friday night. Anthony Leal’s critical block on John Mobley Jr.’s last-second jumper ensured that the Hoosiers (14-5, 5-3) escaped with the win, marking their fifth victory in the last six encounters against the Buckeyes.
The loss marked the third consecutive defeat for Ohio State (10-8, 2-5) in conference play, further deepening their struggles, all of which have been decided by two points or fewer. Mobley’s late-game heroics included a significant 3-pointer with just 38 seconds left in regulation, which tied the game at 71-71. Indiana had a chance to regain the lead but missed several opportunities, including a driving layup by Goode, followed by close-range misses from Oumar Ballo, who did manage to pull down the offensive rebounds but could not convert.
In overtime, Ohio State briefly took a 76-74 advantage thanks to Bruce Thornton’s impressive three-point play with 1:26 on the clock. However, Indiana responded as Myles Rice attempted to lay it in but failed. Ballo’s determination paid off as he snagged another offensive rebound and dished it out to Goode, who secured the win with his crucial shot. In the dying moments, Mobley could not connect on a 3-pointer for Ohio State, and Kanaan Carlyle’s attempt on a short jumper also failed as time ticked down to 14 seconds.
Goode ended the night with a career-high 23 points, while Oumar Ballo recorded an impressive double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds, along with four assists and two blocks for Indiana. Kanaan Carlyle also contributed with 13 points. Mobley led the scoring for Ohio State with 22 points, supported by Micah Parrish, who added 19, and Thornton with his total of 18 points.
Looking ahead, Indiana is set to face Northwestern on Wednesday, while Ohio State will challenge No. 17 Purdue on Thursday.
