Anthony Edwards delivered an outstanding performance with 36 points, a season-high 13 rebounds, and seven assists, guiding the Minnesota Timberwolves to a convincing 116-99 win over the New York Knicks on Friday night.
Edwards showcased his shooting prowess by making eight 3-pointers, while fellow teammate Naz Reid enjoyed a perfect night from beyond the arc, going 6 for 6. This success led the Timberwolves to match their season record by hitting 22 out of 40 3-point attempts, translating to an impressive 55% shooting from long range. Reid contributed significantly with 23 points and eight rebounds.
On the Knicks’ side, Julius Randle struggled with only eight points; however, he supported the team with seven rebounds and six assists in his first game back in New York since his trade, which sent him and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns.
The Timberwolves were without Towns, who is dealing with a sprained right thumb, and DiVincenzo, who has a sprained left big toe. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 26 points, as they faced their sixth loss in the last nine games, while OG Anunoby and Cam Payne contributed 18 points each.
For the Timberwolves, the absence of DiVincenzo saw Mike Conley return to the starting lineup, where he effectively set the stage for Edwards to shine, scoring 10 of his 13 points in the opening quarter. Conversely, the Knicks struggled to replicate their earlier success against the Timberwolves; in their previous matchup last month, Towns had dominated with 32 points and 20 rebounds. Without his offensive firepower and ability to spread the floor, the Knicks could not overcome their defensive lapses in this rematch.
A memorable moment of the game occurred when a spectator won a 2025 KIA Telluride after successfully making a halfcourt shot between the third and fourth quarters.
In a standout statistic, Payne’s buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter left the rest of the Knicks relegated to just eight points, following Brunson’s 13. Notably, Payne ignited the second quarter by scoring the Knicks’ first 13 points, finishing the period with 18 points within just five minutes.
Looking ahead, the Timberwolves will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, while the Knicks will welcome the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
