The attorney representing Xavier Lucas has confirmed that the former player from Wisconsin intends to transfer to Miami, despite his previous institution not having submitted his name to the transfer portal.

Darren Heitner, who is advocating for Lucas, stated that the athlete had made known on social media last month the difficulties he faced due to Wisconsin’s refusal to process his transfer request, which has limited his opportunities with other programs. In early December, Lucas publicly declared his intention to enter the transfer portal.

Recently, the NCAA released a statement clarifying that their regulations do not restrict a student-athlete from exiting one educational institution, enrolling in another, and being eligible to compete immediately.

Reports from Yahoo Sports highlighted Lucas’ aspirations to join the Miami team. The NCAA statement was also featured in these reports.

Officials from Wisconsin have yet to respond to inquiries regarding the situation. It has been reported by various outlets, including Yahoo and the Wisconsin State Journal, that Lucas had previously agreed to a contract to continue with Wisconsin before his decision to transfer.

According to Heitner, Lucas entered into a memorandum of understanding that hinged on the approval of a settlement known as House, which proposes direct compensation for student-athletes regarding their name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights. Lucas was also expected to enroll in classes by the upcoming spring semester. Heitner further stated that Lucas has officially unenrolled from Wisconsin.

Heitner emphasized that Lucas has not received any financial remuneration from Wisconsin, which means he has no monetary obligations to the institution.

Hailing from Pompano Beach, Florida, Lucas made a mark in his freshman season at Wisconsin, contributing 12 tackles, one interception, and a sack.
