AUSTIN, Texas — Sebastián Driussi is set to return to his former Argentine club, River Plate, after spending four years in Major League Soccer with Austin FC.

The 28-year-old forward made significant contributions during his time in Austin, netting 51 goals and providing 22 assists across 115 matches in all competitions, earning an All-Star selection in 2022.

Announcing the move on Friday, Austin FC mentioned that they will be receiving a record-breaking transfer fee for the player, although the exact amount was not disclosed. This transfer has also freed up a designated player position on the roster.

Before his time in the U.S., Driussi played for River Plate from 2013 to 2017, after which he moved to Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia.

Last year, Driussi earned a base salary of $4.5 million, with his total compensation reaching approximately $6.72 million.

The transition marks a significant chapter in Driussi’s career as he returns to a club where he previously established himself as a prominent player.

With this shift, both clubs are poised for new opportunities as they prepare for the upcoming season.
