RALEIGH, N.C. — A tragic incident occurred at a Raleigh restaurant early Friday morning, resulting in the death of one individual after a potential conflict led to a shooting, according to police reports.
A gunman entered Coquette Brasserie, a French dining establishment located in North Hills, where he fatally shot a man before turning the weapon on himself, as stated by Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson during a press briefing. The shooter is currently in critical condition, while a bystander who was also injured is reported to have non-life-threatening wounds, Patterson revealed.
The motive behind the shooting appears to be linked to a dispute, although authorities are still trying to determine whether the shooter and the victim were acquainted. Police confirmed that no additional injuries occurred during the incident, and all gunfire was believed to have taken place within the confines of the restaurant.
“This was not a random incident,” Patterson emphasized. “Such occurrences are not common in North Hills.” The police department clarified that there is no ongoing threat to public safety from an active shooter. As a result, traffic around the bustling shopping district has been severely limited and will likely remain so for a number of hours.
Additionally, several schools in Wake County were placed under lockdown shortly after the shooting, though those measures have since been lifted, allowing normal operations to resume.
