Trump seeks appointment of agent who protected him post-shooting as head of Secret Service

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The incoming President, Donald Trump, is set to appoint one of the agents who protected him during a shooting incident at a Pennsylvania rally as the head of the U.S. Secret Service.
Donald Trump Jr. announced that Sean Curran, who currently leads the protective detail for the president-elect, will be nominated as the agency’s director.
“Sean is a true patriot and will put an end to all the chaos once and for all. There’s no one better suited for this role!” Trump Jr. shared on X on Friday.
The Secret Service has faced significant criticism and scrutiny following recent assassination attempts on Trump, including an incident on July 13, 2024, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was grazed by a bullet in his right ear.
A second assassination attempt occurred at his golf club in Florida on September 15, where Trump was not harmed.
One major concern highlighted during these events was the lack of effective communication between local and federal law enforcement, which was seen as a critical failure that allowed a gunman to shoot at Trump from a rooftop in Pennsylvania. A counter-sniper eventually neutralized the threat by killing the attacker.
During the shooting in Butler, Trump instinctively touched his injured ear and fell to the ground, protected by Curran and other Secret Service personnel who quickly surrounded him.
Despite the chaos, Trump managed to rise with a fist raised, passionately signaling the crowd to “Fight! Fight! Fight!” before being escorted off the stage for safety.
