CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — In an electrifying game on Thursday evening, Tate McCubbin set a new freshman benchmark by scoring 38 points, leading Austin Peay to a thrilling 97-90 overtime victory against Eastern Kentucky.

McCubbin not only shined as a scorer but also contributed significantly with six rebounds and three steals, hitting an impressive nine shots from beyond the arc. The Governors, improving to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, showcased their shooting prowess by establishing a new school record with a total of 19 triples.

In support of McCubbin, Tekao Carpenter added 21 points on a stellar 7-for-11 shooting from three-point range, along with five rebounds. Anton Brookshire also made a notable impact, scoring 18 points and demonstrating efficiency by hitting 4 of 10 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from three-point territory, while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

On the other side of the court, George Kimble III led the scoring for the Colonels with 27 points. Devontae Blanton put together a solid all-around performance with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and two steals. Additionally, Turner Buttry contributed with 19 points to Eastern Kentucky’s cause.

Both squads are set to return to action this coming Saturday, with Austin Peay heading to Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky preparing to host Bellarmine.
