Morehead, Kentucky – Jerone Morton made a significant contribution to Morehead State’s victory over Western Illinois, scoring 17 points in a close 51-47 game on Thursday evening.
Morton showcased his shooting skills, hitting 6 out of 10 attempts from the field, including an impressive 3 for 4 from beyond the arc. Alongside him, Kenny White Jr. added 14 points, managing a shooting line of 5 for 15, while also converting 3 out of 4 free throws. White’s performance was rounded out by his eight rebounds, supporting the team’s effort. Anouar Mellouk played a key role too, scoring 12 points with a shooting performance of 5 out of 11 from the field and making 2 of 3 free throws.
On the opposing side, the Leathernecks had Sean Smith leading their scoring with 11 points and contributing two steals. Marko Maletic followed closely, scoring 10 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Kayden Carter added to the tally with eight points, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
Looking forward, both teams are set to play again on Saturday. Morehead State will take on Lindenwood at home, while Western Illinois will head out on the road to face Southern Indiana.
