BUIES CREEK, N.C. — In an exciting matchup on Thursday night, the Charleston Cougars emerged victorious over the Campbell Fighting Camels with a final score of 67-61, thanks to impressive performances by Deywilk Tavarez and Derrin Boyd, who each contributed 15 points to the win.
Tavarez also recorded five rebounds for Charleston (14-4, 4-1 Coastal Athletic Association), while Boyd completed the game shooting 4 of 12 from the field, hitting three 3-pointers out of nine attempts, and converting all his free throws. Lazar Djokovic played a crucial role as well, scoring 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting and perfecting his three attempts from the charity stripe, along with grabbing 15 rebounds.
Campbell (7-11, 2-3) had their leading scorer in Colby Duggan, who finished the night with 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Teammate Jasin Sinani added 14 points to the board, while Cameron Gregory contributed 10 points and two steals to the team’s efforts.
In the first half, Tavarez helped propel his team by scoring eight points, allowing Charleston to maintain a narrow edge with a 33-30 lead at the break. The decisive moment came when Boyd made a pivotal 3-pointer with just 1:59 left in the second half, securing a 63-60 lead for the Cougars, which they would not relinquish.
Looking ahead, both teams will be back in action on Saturday. Charleston will host Northeastern, while Campbell will take on Monmouth.
