COLUMBUS, Ohio – Caden Davis, a walk-on defensive end at Ohio State and known for his engaging social media content, is no longer a member of the football team, as confirmed by a university representative.
The sophomore athlete from Mason, Ohio, has been absent from the team for an unspecified duration, as stated by Ohio State spokesperson Jerry Emig. Emig also mentioned that federal privacy regulations restrict him from disclosing additional information about Davis’s departure.
In a recent Instagram update, Davis explained that the decision was influenced by “changes in the NCAA and personal career reasons.” He expressed gratitude to his supporters and asked for privacy regarding his choice.
Davis did not have the opportunity to participate in any game action with the Buckeyes and will not be present on the sidelines during their matchup against Notre Dame at the national championship game this upcoming Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Despite not seeing game time, Davis was active on social media, often sharing posts that depicted his experiences with the Buckeyes, including behind-the-scenes glimpses from media days, the facilities, and campus life. His notable online presence earned him the title of the 2023 winner of the “Best of OSU” poll for Best Social Media Presence among student-athletes.
Reflecting on his journey with Ohio State, Davis shared, “Being a Buckeye has always been a dream come true of mine since being a kid.” He expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the coaches, staff, and fellow players for embracing him on the team.
“I truly cannot thank them enough for allowing me to live my dream for the last two years and mentoring me the way they have,” he added.
