The Empire State Building is set to participate in the celebration of Vince Carter’s jersey retirement.
On January 25, during halftime of the game against the Miami Heat, the iconic skyscraper will shine in the colors red, white, and blue, reflecting the former colors of the Brooklyn Nets.
According to an announcement by the Nets, the No. 15 jersey will be displayed in rotation atop the building’s spire.

Carter had an impressive career with the New Jersey Nets, dedicating five of his 22 record-setting NBA seasons to the team.
During the 2006-07 season, he scored a franchise-high of 2,070 points, ultimately earning him a spot in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this past October.

By retiring Carter’s jersey, the Nets will honor him with this being the seventh jersey retirement in the franchise’s history; the last being for his former teammate Jason Kidd.
It is noteworthy that when the team relocated to Brooklyn in 2012, they adopted a new color scheme of black and white, moving away from the previous hues associated with the franchise.
