Following a brief postponement due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, the guild made its nominations public on Thursday and has also extended the voting window to ensure that its members impacted by the fires can participate fully in the process.
The films in contention for the coveted award are: “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Emilia Pérez,” “A Real Pain,” “September 5,” “The Substance,” and “Wicked.”
The Producers Guild’s recognition is regarded as an important predictor of Academy Award outcomes. Mirroring the film academy’s format, the Producers Guild identifies ten films for its equivalent of the Best Picture award, employing a preferential voting method to determine the winner. Over the past five years, winners of the PGA award have consistently aligned with the Best Picture accolades at the Oscars, including “Oppenheimer,” which took the top prize in 2024.
With the nominations now unveiled from the leading guilds, four films have achieved nominations in the top categories across the Producers Guild, Directors Guild, and Screen Actors Guild: “Anora,” “Conclave,” “Emilia Pérez,” and “A Complete Unknown.”
In addition to the main award nominations, the PGA has also recognized five animated features for 2024. The titles selected include: “Flow,” “Inside Out 2,” “Moan 2,” “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” and “The Wild Robot.”
The winners will be celebrated at a ceremony scheduled for February 8 in Los Angeles, which will not be televised. A portion of the funds raised from this event will be allocated to support producers who have been adversely affected by the wildfires.
