Athens, Greece — Authorities in Greece have detained two women suspected of pilfering luggage from fellow travelers in the baggage claim section of Athens International Airport.
The arrests were made on Tuesday evening, with airport police revealing in a statement that the suspects, both Greek nationals, are believed to have stolen a minimum of eight suitcases since November of the previous year.
Officials indicated that the women executed these thefts shortly after arriving on domestic flights.
Following their arrest, police conducted a search of the suspects’ residence in Athens, where they discovered a variety of stolen items.
Among the recovered belongings were numerous suitcases filled with clothing, shoes, wallets, hats, purses, eyeglasses, and small amounts of cash in several foreign currencies, including the Angolan kwanza, Bulgarian lev, Polish zloty, South African rand, Russian ruble, and Swedish krona.
The identities of the women have not been disclosed due to privacy regulations in Greece, and they are scheduled to appear before a prosecutor for an initial court hearing.
