WASHINGTON — In an exciting matchup on Wednesday night, Maximus Edwards came off the bench to score 22 points, leading Duquesne to a 73-65 victory over George Washington.
Edwards also showcased his defensive skills with four steals, contributing significantly to the Dukes’ effort. Duquesne now holds a record of 8-9 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Tre Dinkins struggled with his shooting, finishing with 12 points by sinking 5 of 6 from the free-throw line, despite only making 3 of 10 attempts from the field and 1 of 6 from three-point range. Cam Crawford added to the offense with nine points, having made 4 of 10 shots, which included 1 of 3 from beyond the arc.
On the opposing side, the Revolutionaries, who now stand at 13-4 and 2-2 in conference play, were propelled by Rafael Castro’s impressive performance of 27 points and 13 rebounds. Trey Autry contributed 10 points and was active on defense with three steals, while Gerald Drumgoole Jr. also added a scoring effort with 10 points.
The turning point of the game occurred when Duquesne took control around the 11:17 mark of the first half, establishing a lead they would maintain until the final buzzer. By halftime, they had extended their lead to 42-29, with Edwards making a significant impact and scoring 16 points by that time. In the second half, while Duquesne was outscored by George Washington, Dinkins led the team with eight points after the break, ensuring they held on for the win.
