Hellas Verona has officially transitioned to American ownership, becoming the eighth Serie A club to do so, following a complete acquisition by Presidio Investors, a private equity firm based in Austin, Texas. This transaction concluded on Wednesday and marks the end of Maurizio Setti’s 13-year leadership at the club.
“Achieving this milestone has taken considerable effort over the past few months, and we are thrilled to embark on this journey in a city with such a rich history and passionate community,” stated Christian Puscasiu, managing partner of Presidio Investors.
The new owners expressed appreciation for Maurizio Setti’s role in guiding the club and facilitating this transition, with Setti continuing to contribute as a senior adviser of football operations. Additionally, the club has brought in Italo Zanzi, the former CEO of Roma, to serve as executive chairman.
“Joining Hellas Verona is a significant honor for me,” Zanzi remarked, emphasizing the club’s embodiment of the city’s legacy and enthusiasm. He further stated, “Our commitment includes respecting the club’s deep-rooted traditions while enhancing its operations across all sectors.”
Currently, Verona is sitting just one point above the relegation zone, with an important home match against Lazio on the horizon.
Other Serie A clubs that have American ownership include Inter, AC Milan, Atalanta, Fiorentina, Parma, Roma, and Venezia, while Bologna is owned by Canadian entrepreneur Joey Saputo.
