BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera has landed in Buenos Aires on Wednesday to finalize his move to Argentine powerhouse Boca Juniors.
The 35-year-old former Athletic Bilbao player is anticipated to sign a contract for one year with the club. “It is time to enjoy this unique experience and contribute my experience,” he remarked upon his arrival.
Boca Juniors is actively strengthening its roster in anticipation of the upcoming Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup. Herrera, whose professional journey started at Zaragoza, has also had stints with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Before putting pen to paper, the midfielder is expected to go through a medical assessment. Herrera expressed his admiration for Boca Juniors, labeling it a “giant, special, with a unique history and passion,” and expressed a desire to connect with head coach Fernando Gago soon.
The midfielder revealed that his connection to Boca has a personal history, as his father, Pedro Herrera Sancristóbal, was involved in football as both a player and a sports director. He often shared stories about Boca Juniors, instilling a deep-seated passion for the club in his son since childhood.
