PITTSBURGH — On Saturday, Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin experienced a break-in at his residence, coinciding with the team’s match against the Ottawa Senators.

According to reports from KDKA-TV, which cited anonymous sources, various items were stolen during the incident, including Malkin’s three Stanley Cup rings. The Pittsburgh Penguins confirmed the burglary occurred at Malkin’s home in Sewickley, a suburb of the city, but opted not to provide any further details due to the ongoing investigation.

In a statement released late Tuesday, the team noted, “We are collaborating closely with local law enforcement and our internal security team.” They added that Malkin has requested privacy, and the organization would not be making any additional comments regarding the situation.

Malkin sat out the Penguins’ game against Ottawa, which they lost 5-0, due to an upper-body injury. He made his return from a four-game absence on Tuesday night, contributing an assist in a 4-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken. Following the game, he addressed the media but did not reference the burglary incident.

The 38-year-old athlete joins a growing list of high-profile sports figures who have recently fallen victim to home burglaries. Notably, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had his home looted while the team competed in Dallas for Monday Night Football back in December. Additionally, both Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs faced break-ins at their residences in October. In the NBA, Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis was a victim on November 2, while Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr.’s home was burglarized on September 15, coinciding with a Minnesota Vikings game.

KDKA also reported that during the robbery, the security system at Malkin’s house was not operational, and it was noted that his safe had been left open.
